Coopersville Area Arts Council’s 2nd Act Theater Company has been busy reviving the community theater program and is excited to bring The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee to our local stage this fall!

This Tony Award-winning musical follows a group of eccentric middle school students as they compete for the ultimate spelling championship. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is an hilariously heartfelt musical comedy filled with awkward adolescence, fierce competition, unforgettable characters, and plenty of audience laughs. Make sure to mark your calendars to catch the performances October 23-25.

Auditions are coming up quickly and are open to individuals in high school and older. They will be held September 1 and 2 from 7:00–10:00 PM at the Coopersville Area School’s Community Services Building. To reserve your audition slot visit: https://forms.gle/MEhENyeDxa9mdbJC7.

Summer Youth Theatre Camp presents Mary Poppins Jr.

It’s time again for another “practically perfect” performance from the Youth Summer Theatre participants in our very own Centerstage Theater. Prepare to be entertained by our local youth as they take you on a “Jolly Holiday.” These talented students range in age from 9-14 years old. In two weeks, they memorize lines, music, blocking and choreography to put on an amazing one act musical that will have you stepping in time with the familiar tunes. Performances are Friday, June 19th at 7pm and Saturday, June 20th at 1pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door prior to the performances or by using this link: https://square.link/u/ZXNdaMkA. Prices are $10 for adults, $7 for students, and $7 for Coopersville Area Arts Council Members. Roses will be on sale before the performances with proceeds going towards the Coopersville Area Arts Council’s theatre camp fund.

The Arts Council would like to extend special thank yous to the Coopersville Area Community Foundation, The Rotary Club of Coopersville, Coopersville Brewing Co. & Coopersville Creamery for their generous support. Don’t forget to stop by Coopersville Creamery after the Friday, June 19th performance as they will be donating a portion of the evening’s profits to support our youth theatre programming!

CAAC MEMBERSHIP MEETING / POETRY READING EVENT

Attention all Coopersville Area Arts Council members, poetry writers, and readers! The Coopersville Area Arts Council is holding its annual Membership meeting on Saturday, March 14th, at the Coopersville Community Services Building, in conjunction with their first-ever Poetry Reading event. Along with the usual membership drive and election of CAAC board members, anyone who has written a poem is invited to share what they have written or read their favorite poem. The event will take place beginning with the membership meeting at 4:00 p.m. The cost for the event is $5.00 for CAAC members and students, and $10.00 for all other audience members. There is no charge for all poetry reading participants. There is a 5-minute limit on the readings, and we ask that the readings be family-friendly.

To sign up for this event, go to the website at www.coopersvillearts.org, to the Coopersville Area Arts Council Facebook page, or find the QR code on flyers that are available around the Coopersville area. There will be a Google Form to fill out to register to be a participant in the event. Audience members are also encouraged to come and enjoy the event and support your favorite local poet(s)!

The event is being held in conjunction with the Third Coast Book Festival and will be MC’d by Michigan Poet Joseph Neely, who will also be sharing some of his works. In addition to the poetry, the Coopersville Area Arts Council will be providing a light meal, as well as Door Prizes and a Raffle. We hope to see you share your talents and/or enjoy the works of others. This is a great opportunity to showcase some of our local literary talent!
